The Tiny Village of Minffordd, Wales

Image
Travel Diary:
We were looking into a place to stay in Wales but we didn't really know a lot about Wales or what the best spots were. We knew that we wanted to be near Snowdon National Park and we wanted to be near some places we could go for nature walks. We also wanted a place easily accessible by train but also close to the ocean. Luckily we found an airbnb in the tiny village of Minffordd which was very close to Porthmadog, Snowdon, and beaches like Red Cave near Borth-y-gest. There is also some steam trains nearby that go into the mountains which we knew would be a good options and the crazy looking town of Portmeirion. The train from our friend's place in Stourbridge to Minffordd was pretty scenic.  The train splits at one point so you have to make sure you are in the right car or you'll end up in the wrong place. We went past quite a few nice looking beach towns on our way. There is a lot of places to choose from which is part of why it was hard for us to decide wher…

Travel Diary:
During our 3 month visit to the UK, we went to Wales for a few days to staying Minffordd, see Portmeirion, Porthmadog, and also to see the beach nearby.
We did a lot of walking on this visit. We could have taken the bus but it didn't run all that often and the route was a bit inconvenient for us. A car is definitely an asset when visiting Wales. Originally we were going to check out the Black Rock Sands Beach but we changed our plans. We decided to walk to a town called Borth-Y-Gest to check out the beach nearby called Ogof Coch/Red Cave. We had to walk from Minffordd to Porthmadog and then up a hill to get to Borth-Y-Gest. It probably took us about an hour to do. Then it was just a matter of following the trail by the ocean to get to Ogof Coch/Red Cave. Once we got to the beach we were pretty happy with our choice to see this part of Wales.
It was a beautiful spot and while there were a few people there it was not crowded. We sat for a while and enjoyed the beach. W…

The Amazing village of Portmeirion, Wales

Travel Diary:
Before this recent trip to the UK we had lived in England for 2 years on a youth mobility visa. During those 2 years we had been to Wales a couple times but hadn't really seen a lot of it. It is such a big place to explore and public transit to Wales is not that frequent. It's also quite a big place so there is lots of different spots to see. This time, we decided to take a trip there and we wanted to go near Snowdonian National park. Looking on google we found this place in Wales called Portmeirion which is a village that was designed by an architect to look like an Italian villa. It sounded kind of strange so we wanted to check it out. It's the setting for a TV show we had never heard of called "The Prisoner" and there is a Siouxsie and the Banshees video "The Passenger" that is filmed in Portmeirion too.
We found an Air BnB close by in Minffordd for fairly cheap. It is very expensive to stay in Portmeirion itself. The walk to Portmeirio…
